Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent the majority of her childhood living in Chicago. However, at the time Amy was in junior high, she and her family also resided in the Middle East where her parents, Bob and Barb, taught at the American School. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, as well as a brother Joe. Amy has traveled extensively across Europe with her family and on her own. Because her parents worked as teachers which allowed them to travel together every summer, and camping all over the United States. They've camped in every state, except Alaska. Amy has also traveled to Rwanda following the 1994 war to help in relief efforts. Amy was an accomplished actor in school plays and won writing contests. In high school, she was a promising athlete who was a part of the first ever 3200-meter relay at the Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she went back to college and played a variety of roles on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth July” and then directing Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon”. Amy was an Knox College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with a B.A. East Asian history with a concentration in Theater. She moved to Chicago immediately following her graduation, where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympic, and performed at The Actor's Center. An acting contract on the now-defunct soap opera Another World (1964) moved her to NYC immediately following her graduation. She has been nominated to win a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series". Her most memorable performances were of strong women such as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler who is her husband and the Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She is also the proprietor of Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and is employed as a co-owner. Amy continues to work on films and write.
