Jillian's voice has been used in movies like The Angry Birds Movie (and Charming). Jillian did not know about The Groundlings before she finished her first semester at college. Her first Groundlings concert changed the course of her life. She gave up school to become a groundling and never looked back.

After studying improv at Chicago's Second City and Improv Olympic in the early 1990s, Poehler co-founded the improvisational-comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade. The group moved to New York City in 1996 where their act became a half-hour sketch-comedy series on Comedy Central in 1998. Poehler was the first member of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
